Antique cotton prayer dhurrie from India with saf design. Made under British colonialism, this piece was likely woven in a jail by inmates. The vertical lines are said to represent the prison bars confining the niche design which, during Islamic prayer, is pointed towards Mecca.
Condition is OK. Early 19th C. 1890s-1910.
